Laurie grew up in a food family. Her parents ran restaurants and Laurie learned cooking early – and she learned to do it very, very well. Bill isn’t as much of a cook as he is an eater…but his mom was also a great cook. He just didn’t learn the cooking thing like Laurie did.
We’ve even talked about restaurant ideas, including one that would specialize in both “healthy” food (Laurie) AND “hearty” food (Bill). We thought it would be cool to have a place where you could get a kale salad and biscuits and gravy, designed for couples who can’t come to a decision about food style. Alas, someone else already had the idea…
But both of us love cookbooks and food. And we have quite a few stories and recipes we thought we’d share with this site. Like everyone who shares meals with people, a lot of our family and friends ask for copies of our recipes, so we thought this would be a fun way to do it.
On the phrase “food stories” – I explain that one in the first posting I created, right here.
By the way… about the recipe pictures: WordPress blog entries look really boring without a “featured image”. And we tend to be bad about taking pictures of our own food. So I’m putting in filler pictures that are NOT the prepared food. As we make this stuff into the future, I’ll start taking photos and swapping out the generic stuff.
Oh, and one other picture note: the cover photo for the site is a portion of our actual cookbook shelf. It only shows maybe 1/3 of the books we have. I’ve been buying cookbooks for Laurie since my very first business trip in 1984. And there are a bunch we’ve inherited from friends and relatives also. It’s grown to quite a collection.
So despite my lack of original food/recipe pictures, I / we hope you enjoy the recipes and stories here.
